The second rest camp, Camp Matyholweni, is located near the coastal town of Colchester, off the N2 highway. The camp is accessible by car and is located approximately 45 minutes drive from Addo Main Camp.
Camp Matyholweni is situated in the new southern section of the Park, close to the beach and the Sundays River Mouth. This area does not have elephants yet, but there are plans to re-introduce elephants, buffalo, eland, red hartebeest and possibly black rhino from May 2007 onwards once the fencing has been completed. Animals that are found in this area are: kudu, bushbuck, bush pig and duiker.
Visitors have access to the main wildlife viewing area of the Park via the new access road through Camp Matyholweni, which links Addo Main Camp with Camp Matyholweni. Please note that the gate linking these two sections of the Park closes at 5.30pm and there is no access after this time. The distance from Camp Matyholweni to Addo Main Camp through the Park is 39km. Busses and caravans may not use the new access road and will have to drive directly to Addo Main Camp via public roads.
